Spring in Mid-Missouri has a way of showing up at exactly the right time. After months of winter, the trees begin to bloom, sunlight lingers a little longer, and the air feels full of anticipation. Megan and Shane’s April wedding captured everything we love about a spring wedding day in Columbia, Missouri.

From a joyful morning of getting ready to sunset portraits by the lake and fireworks over Cooper’s Ridge, their wedding day was thoughtful, elegant, and filled with meaningful moments. It was an honor to document their celebration as a Columbia, Missouri photographer, especially for a couple who values photography and heirloom artwork as much as Megan and Shane do.

Their wedding blended timeless traditions, intentional design, and a celebration surrounded by family and friends.

A Spring Morning Getting Ready near Columbia, Missouri

The day began near Columbia with Megan getting ready alongside her mother and bridesmaids in the getting-ready room at Cooper’s Ridge Event Venue. The room was filled with natural light, which is always a photographer’s dream.

Soft spring tones set the visual tone for the entire wedding. Megan chose a color palette of peach, cream, light pink, and navy, which complemented the season beautifully. The bridesmaids’ dresses brought warmth to the bright April day, while Shane and his groomsmen looked classic in navy.

Hair and makeup by Uplifted Bride created a polished but natural look that matched Megan’s timeless bridal style. As a Columbia MO photographer, mornings like this are always special to capture. The quiet moments of anticipation, laughter between friends, and the small details that make a wedding day personal.

Before leaving for the ceremony, Megan shared emotional moments with her family that set the tone for the day: meaningful, heartfelt, and centered around the people who matter most.

A First Look at Cooper’s Ridge Event Venue

Before the ceremony, Megan and Shane shared a private first look at Cooper’s Ridge Event Venue just outside Columbia in Boonville, Missouri.

Set on rolling countryside overlooking a lake, Cooper’s Ridge is one of the most beautiful Missouri wedding venues for couples looking for a scenic setting near Columbia. The venue offers wide open views, elegant indoor reception spaces, and stunning sunset backdrops.

Their first look took place on the property with the quiet landscape surrounding them. When Shane turned to see Megan for the first time, the moment was genuine and joyful which is exactly the kind of emotion that makes a first look so meaningful.

Capturing moments like this on film photography added an extra softness to the images, preserving the warm light of the spring afternoon and the emotion of the moment.

A Sacred Ceremony at Sacred Heart Catholic Church

Following their first look, guests gathered for the ceremony at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Columbia, Missouri.

Sacred Heart is one of the most iconic churches in the area and a beautiful ceremony location for couples getting married in Columbia. The traditional architecture and rich interior create a timeless setting for a wedding ceremony.

Megan’s father walked her down the aisle as friends and family looked on. The ceremony reflected Megan and Shane’s faith and family-centered values. As a photographer, ceremonies like this remind me how important it is to capture both the big moments and the subtle ones: the glance between the couple, the supportive smiles from family members, and the quiet reverence of the ceremony itself.

Wedding Party Portraits at the University of Missouri

After the ceremony, we made a quick stop at the University of Missouri campus for wedding party portraits.

Mizzou is one of my favorite portrait locations as a Columbia MO wedding photographer because it offers classic architecture, beautiful columns, and timeless backdrops. The campus adds a sense of place to weddings in Columbia and is especially meaningful for couples who have connections to the university.

The wedding party brought so much energy to this part of the day. Between laughter, celebratory hugs, and a few candid moments, the portraits felt natural and relaxed—exactly the kind of images couples love to look back on years later.

A Thoughtfully Designed Reception at Cooper’s Ridge

Guests then made their way to Cooper’s Ridge Event Venue for the reception.

The interior of Cooper’s Ridge was decorated with care, bringing Megan and Shane’s spring color palette into the space with elegant florals and thoughtful design details. Sugarberry Blooms created arrangements that echoed the soft peach and blush tones of the day.

The reception space at Cooper’s Ridge is both spacious and warm, with large windows overlooking the surrounding landscape. As the evening light began to soften, the atmosphere became even more magical.

Catering by Design served dinner while guests enjoyed conversations and heartfelt toasts celebrating the couple.

Sunset Portraits

Just before sunset, we stepped outside for 10-15 minutes for portraits at Cooper’s Ridge. Sunset portraits are always one of my favorite parts of a wedding day. The light softens, the timeline slows down for a moment, and couples have a chance to simply be together.

Megan and Shane embraced the moment completely. With the sun setting behind them and the lake reflecting the golden light, their portraits captured the peaceful end to a joyful day. These quiet portraits often become some of the most meaningful images in a wedding gallery.

Dancing, Fireworks, and a Joyful Ending

As the evening continued, the reception floor came alive.

DJ Shark Attack kept the dance floor full while guests celebrated with Megan and Shane. Laughter, music, and joyful dancing carried the celebration late into the evening.

One of the most memorable moments of the night was the final horah, followed by fireworks over the lake organized by SW Productions. The reflections on the water and the cheers from guests created a perfect ending to an already unforgettable day.

A Continued Client Experience

One of the most meaningful parts of my work as a Columbia Missouri photographer is building lasting relationships with couples.

After their wedding, Megan and Shane continued their client experience with Kiley Ann Photography when they returned for portraits with their firstborn son. Seeing couples return for the next chapter of their story is always an incredible honor.

Their wedding day was only the beginning.
